In my opinion, the Fit-out category is particularly impressive, as it demonstrates the potential for existing spaces to be transformed into dynamic, functional environments. The 42 Wigmore Street office refit by Barr Gazetas and the Portman Estate headquarters by Gort Scott are both excellent examples of how existing structures can be adapted to meet the needs of modern workplaces. What many people don't realize is that these projects not only create functional spaces but also contribute to the cultural and social fabric of the communities in which they are located. The Private/individual renovation categories also showcase a wide range of projects, from modest extensions to comprehensive refurbishments. Theis + Khan Architects, TYPE, and Material Works are among the practices recognized for their work on residential projects, demonstrating the potential for creative and sustainable design in the residential sector. From the A-Typical Terrace by T Parsons Design to the Skyler House by Studio naama, these projects showcase the potential for residential spaces to be both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally conscious. One thing that immediately stands out is the way in which these awards recognize the importance of smaller-scale projects. The Project under £800,000 category highlights the impact that can be made with limited budgets, from cultural and educational projects to inventive workplace and residential interventions. The Watchmaker's Workshop by Baillie Baillie Architects and the Goodwood Art Gallery by The Manser Practice are both excellent examples of how creative design can be achieved without breaking the bank.
